Sahara Desert Challenge: the great African adventure!

Since the human species left Africa for over sixty thousand years, the desire to explore the unknown, heading to new lands, has shaped human culture. This desire persist and the Sahara Desert Challenge, a transcontinental expedition that travels through five countries – Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal – is an example of the desire to go further, starting the discovery and adventure.

The cultural exchange is the basis of DNA Sahara Desert Challenge, a project that aims to recreate the great moments of evasion and adventure of the mythical “Dakar Rally”, with affordable participation costs and the possibility of participation of various types of motor vehicles. Concept

The “Sahara Desert Challenge – A great African adventure” is a great trans-Saharan expedition without competitive nature, connecting two continents, Europe and Africa, through Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, and ends in Dakar. The participant of the “Sahara Desert Challenge» not need to have advanced navigation or technical knowledge of driving on off-road, and their vehicles so that they are able to participate do not require special preparation for off-road: the 4×4 vehicles are originally prepared to participate.

The “Marocco Adventure” is a category of the Sahara Desert Challenge that allows a shorter participation in the Great African Adventure. With stages in Portugal, Spain and Morocco, including fantastic off-road stages in the West of Morocco. This category, which connects Coruche and Dakhla, is an ideal solution for those who have little time available or a more limited budget.

Navigation during the travel is made using a “track” GPS and with the help of a “guide-book / road-book” reader-friendly. The “guide-book / road-book” contains various information, including same symbology, route discretion, the GPS coordinates of the required points (“waypoints”), the partial and total km, diverse information about the end location of each stage, contact of the local authorities, health centers and hospitals, repair shops, auto / motorbike parts stores, etc.

This is an affordable adventure over 16 years (the participation of persons under the age is subject to review and acceptance of the organization) with a normal state of health, active and appreciative of adventure travel with challenges to overcome. The difficulties that participants face are average, with mutual aid and camaraderie among participants essential to overcome them.

The Sahara Desert Challenge is organized by a team with enough experience for more than 20 years that organizes expeditions across the Sahara desert, crossing countries like Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Guinea Conakry. It is a dedicated organization, conducting starting and finishing checkpoints at each stage, providing specialized mechanical assistance on the route and providing medical and health care on the route.
